The basics
What is WallUPI, in one sentence?
A scam-protection layer for UPI. It sits underneath the payment apps people already use, reads the situation around a payment, and helps stop a suspicious transfer before the money is gone.
So is it a payment app or not?
No. WallUPI is the safety layer, and it is built so other UPI apps can use it.
The app you can install is a demonstration UPI app: a full payment flow wrapped around the layer so you can see it work in a real sequence. No real money moves through it.
Would I have to stop using the app I pay with now?
No. WallUPI is a layer that UPI apps can build in, not a competing wallet, so your habits, your UPI ID and your bank all stay where they are. The separate demo app only exists so you can try the layer today.
Who is this actually for?
Anyone who pays by UPI, but especially the people targeted hardest: first-time smartphone users, older relatives, and anyone who has just had a call that made them anxious about their account.
Does it cost anything?
The demo is free. There is nothing to subscribe to, no advertising and no data being sold. We are not going to pretend a final commercial model exists when it does not.
Does it need an internet connection?
No. The checks that matter run on the phone, which is why they still work with the network switched off. A connection is only used when a message is genuinely ambiguous, and then only for a stripped, anonymous version of it.
Warnings and decisions
How does it decide something is risky?
It weighs five signals together: who you are paying, whether the amount fits you, whether a call is connected, what recently arrived by message, and how you reached the payment screen. No single one decides anything.
Each signal is explained on the features page.
Will it block my payment?
It will never block one permanently. At the highest level it pauses the payment and holds a short mandatory wait, because that pause is the thing scammers cannot work around. After the wait, the decision returns to you.
What if it warns me about a payment that is completely fine?
That will happen. Paying a new landlord or a hospital for the first time looks unusual, because it is unusual. The warning names the factors it reacted to, so you can see in a second that it misread an ordinary situation, and carry on.
We would rather be occasionally annoying than quietly useless.
What if I ignore the warning and pay anyway?
Then the payment goes through. WallUPI does not seize control of your money. Its job is to make sure that when you decide, you are deciding with the facts rather than under pressure.
Can it catch every scam?
No, and any product that claims to is lying to you. WallUPI shifts the odds and buys you time. The full list of what it cannot do is on the safety page.
Why does being on a call matter so much?
It is the single strongest pattern in this kind of fraud. Very few genuine payments are made while a stranger talks you through them step by step, and a large share of scam payments are. A call does not condemn a payment on its own, but it raises the weight of everything else.
Privacy
It reads my messages. Where does that happen?
On your phone. The message is examined where it already sits and the answer is produced there. Nothing is uploaded, and there is no copy of your inbox on a server. Turn the network off and the checking carries on, which is the simplest proof.
What does reporting a scam ID share about me?
The scam ID, and nothing else. Not your name, your number, what you were paying for, or how much. Reports are weighed against each other, so one mistaken flag cannot mark someone as a fraudster.
Do you sell data, or run ads?
No, to both. A fraud-protection product funded by profiling the people it protects would be a contradiction, and we are not going to build one.
What happens if I refuse a permission?
It keeps working with whatever it is allowed. Refuse message access and the message warnings stop while the payment checks continue. The privacy page lists what each refusal costs.
Installing the demo
How do I install it?
Download the file on an Android phone, open it, and allow the install when prompted. The full steps, including the demo login, are on the download page.
Why a downloadable file instead of a store listing?
Because it is a demonstration UPI app built to show the layer, not a payment app for everyday use, and distributing it directly keeps that honest.
It also means the usual rule applies: only install files from a source you trust. Ours comes from the project’s own release page, and you can see where the link points before you tap it.
Which phones does it run on?
Android 7.0 and above. There is no iPhone build, because the message-reading protection is not possible on iOS in the way it works here.
Is any real money involved?
None. The balance is fake, transfers are simulated, and no bank account is connected. You can trigger a scam scenario and watch the payment get paused without a rupee at stake.
How do I see the scam scenarios?
The demo has controls for the situations that drive risk, such as an incoming call during a payment, so you can watch each warning level appear in turn instead of waiting for a real scam to find you.
Try it rather than trust it
Everything on this page is easier to verify than to believe. The demo takes two minutes to install.
